CHICKEN KEEPING 101
Time & Location
About the Event
Chicken Keeping for Beginners
Backyard Chickens are a fun and healthy way to provide fresh eggs for your household. Learn how to raise a happy & healthy flock naturally, without the use of antibiotics or chemicals. In this class you will learn all about eggs, chicken breeds, roosters, how to get started, how to raise chicks, how to house grown hens & roosters, all about feeders, waterers, feed and bedding, how to tell the difference between a healthy chicken and a sick chicken, and so much more.
Each student will receive a packet of materials personally curated by Iris to take home with you. Each student will also receive their very own copy of “A Kids Guide to Keeping Chickens” by Melissa Caughey. While we aren't kids, this book is a wonderful beginners guide to raising and getting to know your chickens. Filled with full color illustrations of chicken anatomy, breeds, embryo development and more (a portion of the cost of this book will be covered by Chris and Joanne at Hacienda Hay & Feed). We will have the opportunity to look at real live chickens as well as chicks and take a look at essential items for a chicken keepers collection.
Each student should bring a notepad and pen or pencil. Class will be approximately 2 hours with a 30 minute question and answer session at the end. Please RSVP in advance and purchase your tickets no later than March 20th.
We look forward to sharing chickens with you!
